Weber Q 2200 Series Portable Grill Review by Wendell
|My Overall Rating: 4.5|
The Weber Q 2200 portable gas grill is Weber’s restyled Q 220 grill from previous offerings. While these two versions are essentially the same there have been some aesthetic and functional changes as noted below:
- Larger grip handle and control knobs
- Ergonomic side handles
- Sturdy front and rear cradles
- Larger-sized fold-out side tables with greater rigidity
- Weber Q logo prominently branded in the lid
The Weber Q 220 / Q 2200 gas grill joins the other Weber Q series gas grills on the Amazon.com bestsellers list for propane gas grills. Actually several Q models are among the top best selling grills in the tabletop grill category.
Like the Weber Q 320 / Q 3200 Portable Outdoor Propane Gas Grill and the Weber Q 100 / Q 1000 Portable Propane Gas Grill we have profiled on this site, this mid size grill wins the praises of its users.
What makes the Weber Q 220 / Q 2200 so popular?
One reason is what I like to call the Goldilocks factor. For many people choosing a propane gas barbecue grill, the Q 200 /Q 2200 is neither too small, nor too big, but is just the right size.
This grill comes in with a generous 280 square inch cooking surface, so there is plenty of room to grill for that small intimate gathering of friends or family.
Below is a video demonstrating the Weber Q 200 gas grill in action. Most of the features of the Weber Q 220 / Q 2200 gas grill are the same as the grill shown with three primary exceptions. The Q 220 / Q 2200 however, has the following additional features:
- Electronic Ignition
- Tall lid profile – great for cooking whole chickens, roasts and other large pieces of meat
- Built in thermometer in the lid
Another reason for the popularity is the versatility of this barbecue grill. Not only is it a tabletop grill that can be used on the backyard patio, it can also be mounted on an optional folding rolling stand that permits grilling in areas such as the beach, camp grounds, or those designated for tailgating.
This grill is easily transported, quickly set up and achieves cooking temperature in no time at all. It handles both the 14.1 and 16.4 oz. propane bottles and additionally can be attached to a 20 lb. propane gas tank with an optional adapter hose.
If there is anything lacking in Q 2200, it is the fact there is not more than one burner. With only one stainless steel burner, there is no opportunity for cooking with indirect heat. That lack or need is rectified in the Weber Q 3200.
Is the Weber Q 2200 Gas Grill for you?
- Do you often invite friends over for a barbecue? (Great for small groups)
- Do you prefer the mouth watering taste of grilled meats and/or vegetables?
- Do you like a grill that heats quickly and generates enough heat for searing?
- Do you want a grill that will easily cook a whole chicken or roast?
- Does a grill with a built in thermometer make sense to your?
- Do you like the ability to easily transport your grill to a different location?
- Do you like to tailgate or camp out?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you should give this grill serious consideration.
We have discovered that we usually find the best pricing on Amazon.com and many times find that products will even ship free.
When you have a company with the trust and satisfaction that Weber enjoys, it is easy to overlook the testimonials of current owners an users.
Since the Weber Q 2200 is the newly minted Q 220 for 2014, there are few actual reviews it specifically. However, since the unit is essentially the same as the Q 220 you can get a sense of how users like this grill by looking at the user reviews for the Q 220.
Let’s take a look at what some users have had to say about the Weber Q 220 gas grill.
Great compact grill
works great for me … worth every penny
This grill is fun, easy to use and performs beyond my expectations
Overall, we gave this Weber Q 2200 Gas Grill a rating of 4.5 stars, which may be slightly different from the average Amazon review for the owners and users. Because of the overall construction and the strength of the name Weber, this grill would have received high marks anyway. We liked the larger cooking area and the fact that Weber’s patented flavorizer system is built in to the cast iron grate pushed us a bit higher on the scale. We loved knowing that even with the larger size, this grill is still portable enough to load in your vehicle and take with you for cooking on the go. We would have like to have seen the Adapter Hose included for the 20 lb. propane tank, but thankfully it is easily attainable here.
We believe that this grill will satisfy most of your outdoor cooking needs.
